Classroom Rules
Classroom Rules:
Our Students will SOAR! Our classroom rules follow the PBIS program that the school has adopted. In the classroom the students have a pin with their number (no names). Everyone starts on green on Monday; “Ready to Learn”. When students are “SOARing”, they can move their pin up to blue; “Showing Pride”, then purple; “Role Model”, and finally to pink; “Outstanding”!
I will be pointing out positive behaviors throughout the day. Incentives, such as, stickers, stamps and M&M's might be given as a reward. Please feel free to donate fun rewards if you would like. I will also be giving out SOAR Bucks that students can save and “spend” at the student store.
If a student is misbehaving, I would have them explain to me what is going on. Then I will explain to them what they should have done or said differently, as well as, the consequences of their actions. If the student repeats the behavior, I will have them move their pin down to yellow; “Think About it”, if continued, to orange; “Teacher's Choice” (student will have to stay in for one to two minutes of a recess).
Finally there is Red; “Parent Contact and/or Office”. Parents will be contacted to discuss the situation and how we can work together to fix the behavior. Depending on the severity of the situation, Mrs. Olds will be contacted and informed and the student will have to see her. From my experience, open communication between teacher, parent and student is a productive way to solve behavior problems and to keep them at bay.

Homework
There will be no officially assigned “homework”. Students will only be required to read with you and/or to you for 15 minutes each night. They will also be required to finish any unfinished work they did not complete in class or missed because they were absent. If a student is struggling in certain areas, I will send home some ideas/activities that you can do with your child at home. For example, if they need more practice with their High Frequency words, I will send home some cards with the words on them and ideas how to play a game.
